저는 영화 보는 것을 좋아합니다. 일주일에 적어도 서너 편은 보는 것 같아요. 영화는 인간의 다양한 행동양상을 제작진의 의도에 맞춰 압축적으로 표현하는 좋은 수단이라고 생각합니다. 그 표현방식 역시 제작진마다 다르기 때문에 각자의 색깔을 음미하며 보는 재미도 있어요.

I like watching movies. I guess I watch 3~4 movies every week. Movies are good creations to represent humankind’s various behavioral patterns compressively, according to each flim crews. The ways they draw are different as well, so it’s fun to appreciate those inherent colors.

그렇지만 딱히 가리는 장르는 없습니다. 영화를 분석하거나 상징과 미장센을 해석하지도 않습니다. 영화에서 표현되는 이미지, 배우들의 표정과 대사, 플롯의 흐름을 받아들이고 즐길 뿐이에요. 엔딩 크레딧이 끝날 때까지 여운을 남기는 영화든, 매 장면마다 어리둥절해지는 요상한 영화든 저에게는 별반 등급을 매길 거리가 아닙니다.

But, I’m not picky for genre, and analyzing movies nor interpreting symbols and mise-en-scène. I just accept and enjoy images from movies, faces and lines from actors and actresses, flows of the plots. To me It doesn’t have much to rate whether it's a movie that lingers until the end credits, or a weird movie that bewilders at every scene.

이렇게 깊이 없이 영화를 보는 저만의 방식은 바로 영화 스토리의 로그를 남기는 일입니다. 본 영화가 많다보니, 스토리가 뒤죽박죽 섞이거나 제목만 들어서는 무슨 영화였는지 기억이 나지 않는 경우가 너무 많았습니다. 그래서 내가 본 영화가 무엇인지 기억해 두는 것, 영화의 스토리를 떠올릴 수 있는 것. 이 두 가지가 중요해졌습니다. 기록을 남길 필요가 생겼어요.

My own way to watch movies without serious depth like this is to leave its log of the movie story. There are so many movies I've seen but I couldn't remember which movie it was because the story was jumbled together with only titles. So “remembering what movies I watched, being able to recall the story of the movie” have become important. I felt the need to keep records.

미니 데이터베이스를 만들어보기로 했습니다. 굳이 프로그래밍을 할 게 아니었기 때문에 웹 페이지로 간단히 표현할 수 있는 노션(Notion)을 사용했습니다. 데이터베이스의 속성으로 ‘제목’, ‘장르’, ’개봉연도’, ‘영화를 본 날짜’, 그리고 가장 중요한 ‘첫 번째 대사’를 넣었습니다. 보통 영화의 첫 장면은 부지불식 간에 휙 넘어가 기억에서 사라지곤 하죠. 하지만 영화의 분위기, 장르를 인식하거나 플롯을 인지하는 지점은 바로 첫 장면입니다. 처음 몇 십 초 간의 장면이 영화의 톤과 매너를 결정하고 우리의 무의식 중에 영화의 컨셉을 고정해주는 역할을 하죠. 첫 번째 대사 역시도 그런 역할을 하는 경우가 많습니다.

I decided to create a mini database. Since I didn't have to do programming, I used Notion, which can be easily expressed as a web page. As properties of the database, I put ‘title’, ‘genre’, ‘released year’, ‘date the movie was seen’, and most importantly ‘first line’. Usually, the first scene of a movie is skipped over without knowing it and disappears from our memories. However, it is the first scene that recognizes the mood, genre or plot of a movie. The first few seconds of the scene determine the tone and manner of the movie and play the role of fixing the concept of the movie in our unconscious. The first line also often plays a similar role.

예를 들어볼까요. 2005년 개봉한 ‘친절한 금자씨’의 첫 대사는 “살아 있는 천사라지요?” 입니다. 금자씨가 감옥에 있는 동안 회개하고 봉사했던 천사 같은 모습을 전해 들은 한 기독교 신자의 대사예요. 이들은 곧 출소할 금자씨를 기다리는 환영단입니다. 금자씨의 천사같은 외모와 복수를 꿈꾸는 내면이 앞으로 어떤 행동을 보일지 기대하게 하는 장면이죠. 이렇게 스토리가 떠오르면, “너나 잘하세요” 같은 명대사가 왜 나왔는지도 기억이 나기 시작합니다.

Let's take an example. The first line of “Lady Vengeance(친절한 금자씨)”, which was released in 2005, is “A living angel?”. This is from a enthusiatic Christian who heard about the angelic appearance of “Geum Ja” who repented and served while in prison. They are a welcome group waiting for Geum Ja who’s about to be released from prison. It is a scene that makes us look forward to what kind of story Geum Ja's angelic appearance and inner dream of revenge will show in the future. When you think of a story like this, you also start to remember why famous lines like “Mind your own business.” came out.

이렇게 모은 데이터 다발을 아카이브라고 부르기 시작했습니다. 각각의 데이터가 그냥 쌓여서 외따로 노는 게 아니라 데이터 속성을 이용해서 다양한 조합으로 활용할 수 있으니까요. 노션의 공유 기능을 이용해 다른 사람들에게도 보여주기 시작했어요. (인스타그램 @hjs__simulacre) 하나하나 로그가 쌓이다보니 갤러리가 제법 풍성해지기도 했고, 몰랐던 저의 취향을 은근히 보여주기도 하는 것 같더라고요.

I started to call this bundle of data as Archive. This is because each data can be used in various combinations by using data properties, rather than just piled up and displayed separately. I started showing it to others using Notion's share feature through my IG @hjs__simulacre. As logs piled up one by one, the gallery in Archive became quite rich, and it seemed to subtly show my taste that I even didn't know about.

“기억하지 않으면 없던 일이 되나요?” 우리가 자주 묻는 이 질문은, “기억하지 않으면 흔적이 남지 않아 누구도 모르는 없던 일이 되어 버린다”의 줄임말처럼 들립니다. 영화 이야기하는 데 웬 오바를 떠나 싶지만 아카이브의 본질과 존재이유를 통달하는 말인 것 같아 한 번 써봅니다. 제가 영화를 매일 보는 일은 지극히 사적인 영역에서 벌어지는 일이었습니다. 누군가에게 말하지 않으면 사라질, 그러나 저만의 편안한 시간들이었죠. 그런데 로그를 남기고 데이터베이스를 구축해 아카이브를 만듦으로써 제가 소비한 시간에 흔적이 남았습니다. 온라인 공간에 기록을 고정해 두어서, 내 시간을 “흘려보낸 것"이 아니라 “남겨둔 기억"으로 만들어 낸 거죠.

“If I don’t remember, will it be something that never happened?” This question that we often ask sounds like an abbreviation of "If you don't remember it, there will be no trace left, and eventually it will become something that no one knows about." It seems like too much to talk simply about movies, but I think it's the essence and reason of existence of archives. My daily watching of movies was a hobby that happened in my very private area. It could disappear if I didn't show anyone, but at the same time it was my own comfortable time. However, by leaving logs, building databases and creating Archive, the time I spent left traces by fixing the records in the online space. I made my time into a “memory left” rather than a “passed away”.

이 사이트는 어떻게 만들어졌나

프레임워크를 쓰지 않았습니다. HTML과 CSS를 손으로 썼고, Node 표준 모듈만으로 정적 파일을 만듭니다. 목록 배치와 화면 대응은 전부 CSS가 하고, 브라우저에서 도는 JavaScript는 없습니다. JavaScript를 꺼도 163편이 그대로 읽힙니다.

2026년 8월 8일 HTML의 날 서울에 다녀온 뒤, 5년 동안 Notion에 쌓아온 기록을 직접 만든 웹사이트로 옮겼습니다.

영화 정보

제목을 한국어, 영어, 제작국 언어 어느 쪽으로 넣어도 두 곳을 함께 찾습니다. 후보는 사람이 직접 고릅니다. 자동으로 확정하지 않습니다. 잘못 짝지어진 정보가 아카이브에 섞이면 되돌리기 어렵기 때문입니다.

찾지 못한 값은 비워 둡니다. 그럴듯한 값을 지어내지 않습니다.

이 사이트는 TMDB의 인증을 받거나 승인을 받은 것이 아닙니다.

About this archive (English)

I write down the first line of every film I watch, so that I do not forget its story. The archive began in 2021 as a Notion database and moved here in August 2026.

Each record keeps one spoken line, the film it came from, and the speech style that line belongs to. The style taxonomy is my own: 20 kinds grouped into 6 families. Film metadata and posters come from TMDB and KMDb; the first lines and the classification are written by hand.

The site is built without a framework. HTML and CSS are written by hand, and a Node script turns movies.json into static pages.
